Back pain is something so many of us experience,, whether it's from sitting too long, lifting something heavy, or just everyday stress.
Over the years, I have seen many patients from all over the world suffering from long-term back pain.
For many, it had become a part of everyday life — something they thought they simply had to live with. But with the right treatment approach, it is absolutely possible to relieve pain and regain a sense of ease and freedom in the body.
At IDOU Japanese Acupuncture, we take a warm, holistic approach to helping you feel better, combining the wisdom of traditional Japanese acupuncture with modern techniques, which I really like!
Let’s walk you through how acupuncture and our other technics can help your back pain, based on both traditional practice and modern approach.
How Acupuncture Helps with Back Pain
Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to relieve pain by stimulating specific points in the body. And modern research supports its benefits too!
Chronic Low Back Pain: Studies show acupuncture can really help reduce chronic back pain and improve your ability to move and function*1. Many people feel significant relief compared to those who only receive usual care.
Acute Low Back Pain: Results are a bit more mixed for sudden back pain, but many still find acupuncture to be a gentle, drug-free option worth trying *2.
At IDOU, we believe in combining ancient knowledge with a modern understanding of the body to give you the best care possible.
Boosting Results with Electroacupuncture
We also offer electroacupuncture, which is simply acupuncture with a mild electrical current applied to the needles. It sounds high-tech, but it’s completely safe and often more effective for chronic pain*3 .
Patients often say that electroacupuncture feels like a gentle tapping or pulsing sensation, and many find it speeds up their recovery.
Releasing Tension with Cupping Therapy
Another therapy we offer is cupping — a traditional technique where suction cups are placed on the skin to improve blood circulation and relax tight muscles.
Cupping can be especially helpful for back pain because it helps loosen tension across wide areas of large muscles.
The effect is a bit more superficial compared to acupuncture, but by combining cupping and acupuncture, we can effectively treat both surface and deep muscle layers.
Many studies have shown that cupping therapy can help relieve chronic back pain, often improving both pain levels and mobility*4.
At IDOU, we use gentle and safe cupping techniques, and many of our clients find it deeply relaxing — often saying they feel lighter, looser, and more mobile afterward!
Extra Support with Taping
Have you seen those colorful tapes on athletes’ backs and shoulders? That’s kinesiology taping, and we use it too!
The tape helps support muscles and joints without restricting your movement. Some research shows it can help ease pain and improve how well you move*5.
While results can vary, many of our clients love the extra support taping provides between sessions.
